Esteemed colleagues, dear friends,

Welcome to the 25th Annual Conference of Croatian Psychologists with the main topic

Psychology in the protection and promotion of human rights and social justice,

to be held from November 8 to 11, 2017, in Zadar.

The main topic of this year’s conference are human rights. Having in mind constant threat and everyday violation of human rights, as the profession we feel obliged to strongly involve ourselves in this field. The Croatian Psychological Association, as a professional organization, must do everything possible within its domain and abilities – to work on raising awareness of human rights and their violation, and to work on the prevention of violation and amelioration of its consequences. Here emerge different issues – do we have enough knowledge and resources for this, are we educated enough and do we know enough about these problems, which are specifics of psychology and psychologists and what is their expected contribution, do we know what are the consequences of human rights violation upon human life and its quality from the earliest developmental to old age. To the necessity of stronger involvement of psychologists and psychology obliges us also our umbrella organization – the  European Psychological Association, where we are present and very active within the EFPA Standing Council for Human Rights. I feel free to add also a not less important issue – what are the human rights of psychologists as scientists and experts, are these rights violated in various situations in the evolution of our career, our participation in the world of work and in all that we observe as psychologists?

To the Conference are, as always, welcome the representatives of collaborating professions – professionals in law, medical doctors, psychiatrists, medical nurses, sociologists, philosophers, social workers, educational rehabilitators, as well as all with whom psychologists collaborate every day through interdisciplinary approach. We are sure that their contribution will enrich the program of this year’s conference.

We particularly invite all psychologists who have ended their careers, but still feel appurtenance to the profession, to present and share their rich professional experience. We also remind students of psychology from all Croatian universities not to miss the Conference and to use the opportunity to obtain new knowledge, to get mutually acquainted and to establish new contacts.

Finally, this is our jubilee 25th annual conference, what is an especially important fact and we shall try to worthily celebrate it through numerous events. From the first conference held in Zagreb, over Osijek, Rijeka, Bizovačke Toplice, Varaždin, Pula, Plitvice, Dubrovnik, Split, Poreč, Trogir, Rovinj, Šibenik, Petrčane, Cavtat, Božava, Vodice, Opatija (in some cities several times), we have walked almost all over our country and analyzed various topics. This time our host is the Psychological Society in Zadar, accompanied by the psychologists of the Lika-Senj County, as well as the colleagues form the Department of Psychology, University of Zadar, what guarantees one more excellent annual conference.

Josip Lopižić
President, Croatian Psychological Association.
